My name is Jennifer Kennedy, and I love building meaningful relationships with students. I'm generally reserved and quiet, but in the flute studio, my goofiness comes to life. My students are typically self-driven, highly intelligent, kind people, and I feel lucky every day that I have the honor of encouraging them toward their full potential.
My parents worked with scientists and engineers, so I grew up in a household that values science, logic, thought, and analytical reasoning. So although I'm the only professional musician in my family, my upbringing leads me to teach with a "can solve" kind of attitude. I'm always brainstorming creative practice techniques, workarounds for mental roadblocks, and ways to build upon my students' self-confidence.

I'm a listener and observer, and I love learning about people; how they think, how they learn, what activities they choose, and what makes them light up. In my work as a private teacher, I love learning what my students want and need as people and adapting to them accordingly. Each student former and current holds a special place in my heart and I will always be their cheerleader!

I love farmers' markets, craft fairs, small town shopping, and animals. It's always fun to bring home tasty snacks for my rabbits, Poppy and Felix. Here's Poppy nibbling on a strawberry, her favorite!

I also used to have a cat named Levon who loves sitting right on top of whatever I happen to be working on. He looks a lot younger than he is too. He's about seventeen years old now!

When I'm not teaching in or playing with ensembles, I spend a lot of time painting. My new favorite medium is acrylic gouache, and I've been experimenting with watercolor too.
As a flute teacher, I strive to offer mentorship and persistent encouragement. I want to build a lasting connection with my students so they always have someone in their corner. Teaching a student how to play the flute is obviously important to me, but not as important as providing a space for personal growth and exploration. Music is an ideal medium for both.
If you want to book private flute lessons for yourself or your child, I would love to hear from you! Let's set up a trial lesson to see if we are a fit.
Be safe, kind, and well,
