JENNIFER KENNEDY
(she/her/hers)

Hello! I'm Jennifer Kennedy, flute teacher at the Kennedy Flute Studio and a freelance performer now based in La Crescenta-Montrose, CA (also serving students from Glendale, La Canada, Altadena, Pasadena, Tujunga, and Burbank).

I grew up in Southern California where I began my musical studies in 2003, and I started teaching in 2009. It's so special for me to be returning to my hometown, Montrose, CA, to build a flute studio much like the one I grew up in.

As a teacher, I strongly believe that anyone can play the flute with proper encouragement and support. My highest priority is to ensure that each student feels seen, heard, and comfortable during their lessons so they have maximum space to reach their highest potential while enjoying the process!

Throughout high school and college, I played in flute choirs, chamber ensembles, bands, and orchestras. I earned my bachelor's in Flute Performance from the University of North Texas in 2016, and my master's degree in 2017 from Stony Brook University.

While living in Monterey County during the last six years or so, I performed with local orchestras like Monterey County Pops!, the I Cantori di Carmel Orchestra, Ensemble Monterey, and the Monterey Symphony. With the Monterey County Pops! Woodwind Quintet, I performed in assemblies offered to local elementary schools at no cost to introduce young students to instruments of the orchestra through the musical story, Peter and the Wolf. I also performed woodwind quintet concerts in retirement and rehabilitation facilities for a similar outreach program offered by Monterey County Pops! called Music for Seniors.

During my studies, I worked with mentors who were pivotal in my development as a flutist and teacher. I'm grateful to Francine Ross Pancost, Terri Sundberg (Flute Professor at University of North Texas), Jim Walker (Flute Professor at USC), Carol Wincenc (Flute Professor at Stony Brook University and the Juilliard School), and others who have given me guidance and taught me how to be a great teacher.
